Horses
04:11
|
|||
Lightning breaks the raging air,
Horses lying dead,
Every god's abandoned snare
Is set where I am led.
Oh the days,
They stagger by
No humble or unkind
Alone by lantern light where I,
Can trace the fractures of my mind.
The storm she turns in trouble sleep
The wind is caught and thrown
The haunted call of the coyote
Barbs the land I roam
If I could touch the frailty
Of thin disquiet love
A wind-whipped spine
A melody
Sings storms into the blood
The rain she brings the darkest air
Falls and strikes as stone
When soft like strands of silver hair
She cries the storm has flown
If I could sing for every soul
Who Godless wandered on
I'd sing the death of suffering
And call the burning dawn

Ursa
02:50
|
|||
Down by the Black Water
I see him fall in
Then high up in the bower
He plays a violin
Little silk worm
Springs from the melody
Threads the stars down
And hangs them from a tree
Have you wandered far for
To find a little light
And Ursa be a black bear
To guide us in the night
Stars of silver
Hair his bow
Made from antler
Horn and bone
Down by the Black Water
I saw him fall in
Then high up in the bower
He played a violin

Fever in Bedlam
03:37
|
|||
Simple, he said that I was a child
Simply by the manner of my ways
Four corners and the wind's not wild
If I had half a horse I'd ride away
I'll lie in heavy lidded sleep
Where leaves grow heavy with the heat
And shadows fall in midnight green
I'll lie where bleeding poppies dream
And oh to be alone again
A cradle it is no place to lay the dead
Pray for them though godless you may be
And Bedlam is still a place to lay your head
Beside the dogged face of the Furies
I'll lie in heavy lidded sleep
Where leaves grow heavy with the heat
And shadows fall in midnight green
I'll lie where bleeding poppies dream
And oh to be alone again

Hardworn Hearts
02:49
|
|||
Wake in the morning and you'll find him gone
Hardworn hearts are singing bitter songs
Empty vessels calling for a form
Forgo futures, lives unlived, undone
Days agaze and gaping wide open
Living for the fruit of illusion
And the narrow gate of cold reason
Oh the end was coming all the time
Bodies fell in dreams on the front line
Heaven never tasted so sublime
Than the days we made when you were mine
We'll pretend that it's nobody's fault
Charge yourself until you will revolt
Store your anger up inside your vault
Under lock and key and bar and bolt
All you hold you know you can't exalt
By and by we all defy our growth
Oh the end was coming all the time
Bodies fell in dreams on the front line
Heaven never tasted so sublime
Than the days we made when you were mine

Wildwood
04:22
|
|||
I woke in the wild wood
of thorny brush and scrub
in darkness was no beaten path
there to be found
Lying in wait there
was danger underfoot
and beastly creatures bled me dry
without a sound
Dream, I must be dreaming
Dreamed I died and went to hell
A crack in the sky there
the moon revealed herself
and showed me terrifying women
in strange trees
A jolt in the wood then
for the blood moon reprise
a shrieking crying wailing wild
cacophony
Dream, I must be dreaming
Dreamed I died and went to hell
Up rose the sun then
a flaming line of fire
swallowed the wood
and charred their voices
til they smoked
All turned to black then
a crow called out my name
I could not see or hear or feel
and then I woke.
Dream, I must be dreaming
Dreamed I died and went to hell

Love is Fast at Sea
04:10
|
|||
Pulled in by the undertow
I lose my way, I lose control
And some thin veil is quivering
I see you now for all you've been
While love is fast at sea
Some day I will navigate
The way through this old dreaming state
I could dream the deepest blue
I'll never know the end of you
While love is fast at sea
Sail over the horizon
Where fallen stars mark dark heavens
And say that when you close your eyes
You'll see my face against the light
While love is fast at sea

Cedar Tree
03:27
|
|||
I was a man who was inclined
To leave the beaten path behind
But you were always on my mind
I was a fool and love was blind
And some day you'll leave me
And time will pass by
And there'll be no grieving
Or lasting goodbye
When I was younger I was wild
A past I'll never reconcile
I guess I loved you all the while
I chose to walk a sorry mile
And some day you'll wake up
And I will be gone
It might come too late but
I have done you wrong
I sat under a Cedar tree
I dreamed you were dreaming of me
Grey birds flew out over the sea
I dreamt I held you in my sleep
And some day you'll leave me
And time will pass by
And there'll be no grieving
Or lasting goodbye

The Cricket
05:35
|
|||
The cricket sings for you
You are the name of his hymn
Waits to be washed in dew
He knows the song of your skin
Pale as milky daylight
Soft as sleep
And trembling too
